How Steve Startup spared his computer and sanity
A very likely copywriting story…
It’s a sweltering evening in a southern Oklahoma farm house, and Steve Startup is glaring at the blinking cursor on his recently purchased Squarespace account. He knows this is the portal to the world. His escape from his hometown.
He could be doing business with executives in Copenhagen in a week if only…
He could write the landing page copy!
His palms are sweaty and his weak thoughts are heavy though not from the lack of AC. He’s reaching that level of frustration where tossing his computer out the window is a very real possibility. Seeing it sail across the lawn and smash into water pump. His fingers dance with excitement for a moment…
But he sits back instead. His eyes narrow to Lord Voldemort slitted red. That’s his rage.
He’s stuck.

A current copywriting story…
Gah! I remember those days!
I’m reminded of them when I visit websites where the writer clearly was unsure of what to write.
Thankfully I’m not there any longer!
Donald Miller’s Building Your StoryBrand provides a crystal clear guide for writing website copy. Especially landing page copy. He identifies five key areas that will allow visitors to scan your site and figure out if you have the special sauce they need.
I hosted a webinar on this topic called Creating a Killer Landing Page Without Spending a Dime, and I’ve created a PDF for the section on the five key areas that you can access below.
With any one of these resources, you’ll go from “I’m about to toss my computer out the window” to “Heeeeyyyy—that was easy!” I recommend using all three: Miller for the theory, my webinar for the back-and-forth with attendees, and the PDF as a cheat sheet you set between your computer and coffee while you write stellar copy.
